Born in 1898, Salvatore Ferragamo was an Italian shoe designer who founded his eponymously named luxury goods company. By the age of 9, he had already made his first pair of shoes. He continued to study the art of shoemaking in Naples but moved to the United States in 1914. Ferragamo found success working for Hollywood and earned a reputation as the “shoemaker of the stars.” In 1927, he returned to Italy to start a shoe company. Over the years, the business has grown and expanded into other markets such as watches, fragrances and eyewear.
